Why I chose to do YouTube

Sunday 19 April 2015

I've had this question a few times now so I thought I would do a blog post about why I choose to vlog as well as blog. For me vlogging actually came before blogging, I've technically had my YouTube channel longer than I've had this blog running! I started making YouTube videos when Lily was a baby. I would make a monthly update video each month and set the videos to private so only I could see them. This for me was a great visual way of remembering what Lily was like and what she was up to at certain months. However when Lily got to a year old I started thinking that I wanted to capture our 'adventures' as well as just doing her updates. The older she was getting the more and more trips out we were having and I wanted to capture those days for us both to look back on. That's where the name Lily Mae Adventures came from.

After a while of doing this I started watching more and more mummy YouTubers and became addicted, especially to their day in the life videos and I decided that I too wanted to preserve the 'normal' everyday.. The days you're more likely to forget and the little things you want to remember but probably won't in years to come.

Fast forward a year and I'm still making videos and loving it. My YouTube channel has continue to expand to things like hauls and tags and general chatty updates, things that are fun for me to film as well as preserving memories. On top of that, the YouTube mummy community is like no other. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and in the short time I've spent on YouTube I've already made some lovely friends.

To anyone who's been thinking about making videos but haven't yet... dip your toe in the water and try it! You never know, you might find yourself a great new hobby in the process or even a passion for video making you didn't know you had. If you're really nervous about it why not do what I did and do a few months of making private videos for yourself first, until you feel more comfortable?

If you've just started up a channel or even if you already have an established one, leave me your link below. I'd love to check them out :)

  1. This is really interesting to read as I'm always toying with making youtube videos but then I talk myself out it. I feel like I should 'leave it to the pretty people'! Not sure I have the face for youtube. However, making videos and keeping them private is a really good idea. :)
