Archers 7 month update

Wednesday 28 September 2016

Archer turns 8 months today so its time to round up how month 7 has been for him. It's definitely been the month of milestones, I feel like I have so much to talk about and honestly it's quite scary how fast it's all come on!

Like I said this month has definitely been the month of big changes. It's the month where I've felt the most like my baby is no longer a baby. At the start of September Arch still wasn't sitting up but as soon as he managed that it seemed like everything else has just swiftly followed. Funny how that happens!

So Archer, this month you are -

Eating more - Since we started weaning you at 6 months you've been LOVING your food. Much more than your sister did. Your favourites are porridge, toast and apple slices. Though there's not much you don't like!
Feeding less - Since you started food your milk intake has been a lot less. I'm guessing because your stomach is already full? I've been a bit concerned as the guides say food before 1 is just for fun and milk should still be your main source of nutrition but you're still gaining plenty of weight so I'm not too worried.
Taking shorter naps - Rather than 2 longer afternoon naps (usually early morning and early afternoon) You now seem to be doing three shorter naps. It's not an ideal sleep schedule when we have plans but hey ho!
Passing toys between your hands - Doing this makes you look so grown up Arch! You've also started throwing things just to watch them fall to the floor (and because you know we'll pick them up and give them back to you haha)
Understanding commands - In the past fortnight you've started to understanding a few things we ask of you. I remember loving this stage with your sister! Waving is your new favourite thing and it's so freaking adorable! as soon as someone waves at you or says bye you start waving. Bashing is another new favourite. If I tell you to bash you immediately start hitting your hands on the floor or bashing toys together. So clever!
First word - Your first word finally happened! I'm not sure when Lily's was actually, although I feel like it was a few months later? (just checked my old diary and nope it was 7 months too!) and of course it had to be 'dada' just like your sister. James is so pleased!
Sitting up - You started doing this a week after you turned 7 months, just as we were beginning to think you were never going to  manage it! You much prefer being sat up and playing and now mummy can get a bit more hands free time hallelujah!
Backwards crawling - This is a relatively new one but it's exciting! You're at the stage now where you get frustrated when you cant reach something and yesterday for the first time you got up on all fours and started to go backwards. I remember Lily doing this for a few weeks before she figured out how to go forward so you may well be crawling by your 8 month update!
