Siblings in September

Thursday 15 September 2016

I talked in my last sibling post about how Lily was experiencing a lot of jealousy and resentment towards Archer of late and although I knew it was all normal, it was still kinda breaking my heart a little. Well this month, thankfully, has been much much better and for that I must breathe a sigh of relief.

Looking back at last months stress I think a lot of it was to do with Archers mood. He was teething like mad for weeks and boy did we all know about it. Lily was getting so fed up with it all and angrily announced to me and James one afternoon that "all he ever does is scream!"
& that basically set the tone for the whole of last month..

I can laugh about it now but honestly at the time I wanted to cry because I actually agreed with her, it really did feel like all he ever did was scream!

Now Archers teething seems to have settled down (still no teeth though, what's that all about!?) the pair of them are back to doing what they do best - making each other laugh. Hysterically. over and over again.
Lily loves how easy it is to make Archer laugh - I think I've said this before but he is basically her best audience. In fact yesterday evening she had him laughing solidly for a good half an hour just by repeatedly hitting him on the head (gently!..ish) with a rolled up newspaper.

On the flip side Archer will have Lily almost crying with laughter when he does silly things like blowing raspberries or chomping down on her arm (his current favourite game.) She always runs into the kitchen to tell us what he's up to, usually ending the sentence with a gleeful 'he's bonkers isn't he!'

I've noticed that this month Arch has also become a lot more interested in toys and fussier when it comes to what he wants to pick up. Whilst last month he would automatically take whatever you gave him, in the last week he's started batting your hand away if you try and give him something he doesn't want and then he takes it upon himself to reach for an item he actually does want instead. Even if it's something as simple as wanting a yellow piece of lego instead of the red piece I just offered him.
It's so clever and I LOVE that he's getting his own mind but it is already starting to cause a fair bit of bickering between the two of them as Arch is constantly wanting whatever Lily is playing with and is forever trying to grab objects out of her hands.
(One thing you need to know about my daughter is that she will happily share...as long as it's on her terms ;))

Along with the fighting over toys, the sibling teasing has also begun!! Not from Archers side obviously. Not yet, anyways! But Lily seems to have realised that she can tease him and that there's nothing that he can do about it. I actually caught her dancing around him in a circle singing the line 'I've never seen a king or beast with quite so little hair' from the Lion King. Poor Arch, it's not his fault he's a little baldy!

These photos were taken on that boiling hot Sunday last week and are by far my favourite photos of the two of them so far. We went for a early morning walk and whilst the walk itself wasn't that great (over heated children and lily being stung by a nettle which was apparently the end of the world) the photo's actually turned out half decent for a change so it was worth it. I was right about them being way easier to photograph now Archer can sit up, hallelujah!

  3. Oh my god I actually laughed when I read the part about the line from Lion King haha! I am glad Lily isn't jealous anymore. It's hard when they go through that stage isn't it. Such beautiful photos xxx

  4. These are such lovely photos. I totally know what you are going through with the frustrated three year old though - Toby gets so annoyed with Gabe always trying to grab whatever he's playing with, or crawling all over everything. I'm just holding on to the hope that one day they will actually be able to play nicely together! #siblingsproject
