Filey Diaries Day 4

Thursday 30 March 2017

I think it's pretty safe to say that today has been the saviour of this holiday.

No, but really.

All thanks to good old Mr sunshine making his appearance.

It's sad really isn't it, that the state of the weather has to determine whether or not we have a good time. & normally it wouldn't really, especially as we're put on waterproofs and stomp in alllll the puddles kind of people. But on this holiday the weather quite simply has determined the state of our days. And thankfully, today was a good one.

We actually managed to have a productive morning this morn. Hurrah for managing it at least once this week, haha. We were up and out of the cottage by 8.30 and at the on site swimming pool. Lily loved it. James bought her a pair of goggles & she had me in hysterics by deciding the addition of said goggles now meant she was a synchronised swimmer. She was showing me all these swimming moves I had no idea she knew, but apparently she saw on Youtube. (I was treated to may renditions of the crab, the starfish and even one called the candlestick, haha.) Archer loved it too. & a kind lady even let him borrow her daughters seat ring which meant he could run up and down the length of the pool in this ring. Which also had me in hysterics because it just looked so weird but it made him so happy. He was living the dream, basically!

The early morning swim was followed by a heavenly 3 hour nap for Archer and by the time he woke the sun was thankfully shining. & so beach time it was. I have to point out that as nice as these beach pictures are (and I really do love them) It was safe to say Arch wasn't a fan. He woke up from his nap with one of his teething temperatures and was just plain miserable, and honestly, being on the beach didn't really change that. It did for maybe the first five minutes, to be fair to him. He was in his element and crawled everywhere in the sand chasing after Lily and laughing. And then it was like he suddenly remembered that he was poorly and being on the sand didn't really help - and so he reverted back to screaming. In which our lovely afternoon then turned into us tag teaming him by walking him up and down the beach whilst the other played with Lily.

But still, if he was going to be sad and screaming anywhere, I'd rather it was at the seaside I guess! ;)

'She's manic. Manic on sea air.'

Lily loved the whole afternoon I should add. She's such a seaside kind of girl - she's big into the whole building sandcastles and hunting for shells and all that fun stuff you love as a kid. And being with her makes you feel like a kid again for a moment too. She even thought it would be hilarious to full body throw herself into the sea right at the end of the afternoon. Sigh. She's totally fearless. But still, it made my heart sing to watch. Her interspersed moments of joy have made it all worth it for me this week.
