Weekend Watch - The one with the May Day Bank Holiday (Picture heavy)

Wednesday 3 May 2017

Oh bank holidays, you are both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it's so nice to not have the weekend go hurtling by at the speed of light, time to relax and just have simple family time that doesn't feel rushed for once. A curse because it's so hard to get back into the routine and the daily grind. How can one extra day make such a difference? The bank holiday blues are real, yo!

Saturday and Sunday were pretty un-eventful in terms of trips out. We did take the kids to Tropical World on Saturday which is always good fun but hardly exciting as we go there so often. It was only on Monday that we decided to make the most of the extra day and get out and about properly and so it was decided that we would spend the day at Harlow Carr despite the forecast of heavy rain.

If you're in the Leeds/Harrogate area and un aware of what Harlow Carr is it's basically a massive woodland area with various wildflower meadows, gardens and several adventure playgrounds dotted around. There's even a Bettys tea room on site! It's one of our favourite places to go, both beautiful surroundings for the growns ups but entertaining enough for the children too. I love it.

We got seriously lucky with the weather because despite the miserable forecast it was actually really warm with the sun making an appearance here and there throughout the day. We weren't so lucky with the timing though as a lot of the flower displays usually in bloom when we go around mid April had been and gone, same for the blossom bushes and wildflower meadow. Crazy what a difference a couple of weeks can make really - at least we know for next time!

There was a lot of bluebells, heath and lavender though so all was not lost on the photo taking front. In fact a lot of these photos are my new favourites I must say.

What did you all do with your bank holiday? I hope you all had fun, whatever you got up to.
