Weekend Watch - He's Walking!

Monday 26 June 2017

This weekend has been one of those weekends that are over and done without before you've properly blinked. The sign of a good weekend I guess, as many of them have been dragging lately.

The exciting news from this weekend is that Archer is OFFICIALLY walking. Yes, properly this time haha. I'm pretty sure I made a similar announcement about 3 or 4 months ago. When he started taking steps and I got very prematurely excited as he reverted back to crawling within the same day and that was it. Up until now.

I'm not even sure what made him suddenly decide to walk this weekend. He'd been walking just holding a finger all week which was a massive step in itself but on Saturday, as we headed towards the car to go and see James parents, he just let go. And that was that, he was off.

And so since Saturday he's been non stop. Walking for the sake of walking, holding his chubby fists out in front of him for balance with a look on his face that screams i'm just so proud of myself mum!  It's my favourite ever sight.

On Sunday we took the kids to a local farm. Less about the animals (since we go there regularly and i'l be honest Lily's pretty much sick of the sight of them by now) and more about the open spaces. Meanwood Farm has really flat surfaces and open fields so perfect for Archer to practice his walking outside.

We took the reins in case it was too much for him but we needn't have worried as he was in his element. Toddling along at what seemed like a hundred miles an hour, shouting happily at his sister scooting along besides him.

I thought I'd feel emotional and maybe a little sad at his walking, especially as it's such a big milestone wrenching him from babyhood into the toddler years. (He is officially a toddler now - oh my god) but actually I just feel plain relief. He's only been walking for what 72 hours - 3 little days - and he already seems less fussy and so much happier in general. 17 months in I think we were all ready for it to happen.

And seeing him & Lily walk side by side. It's just exactly what I imagined when I dreamt about having two.

Here are some photos of our trip to the farm this Sunday. I'm forever going to look back on this particular outing and this particular album and remember it as Archers first walk. These photographs already feel incredibly special to me.

  1. Ah those little chubby fists as he's walking along are so, so sweet! I remember Parker's temperament changed each time he learnt to move more - walking seemed to give him freedom which he was clearly craving. Really hope it helps with Archer too! xx
