Three photography apps that solve all my photo problems

Friday 2 March 2018

As much as I am obsessed with my DSLR camera (and believe me I am OBSESSED!) I also love taking photos on my Iphone too. It's so quick and simple and very much ideal for when you're just 'in the moment' (dontcha hate that phrase ha) and want to take a quick capture of something you or your child is doing.

I have three photo apps on my phone that I'm going to talk you through as they are my 'go to' apps. Between them they cover every single thing I need to do with my snaps and because of this I've never needed to download any other.

The first app I use on a daily basis, quite literally with every single phone photo I take is A Color Story. A Color Story is essentially an app dedicated to the overall look and colour of your photos and because of this it offers hundreds and hundreds of different filters. There's just about every one you could ever think of on there! Some come free with the app and other packs you can pay for. I have a set filter called 'Crisp' from the 'Fresh' pack that I use for all my photos that helps me achieve the clean white bright theme I tend to go for on my personal Instagram which you can see below.

As much as I love A Color Story it doesn't offer much in terms of photo tools which is where Facetune, my second app comes in. Facetune costs £3.99 but provides so much more than the average photo editing app in my opinion and so is worth the money. It is  essentially aimed at helping you to touch up your photos, to 'make you look your Hollywood best' and so offers plenty in terms of editing tools such as skin smoothing, face re-shaping and other things you wouldn't have thought possible! I actually personally use Facetune less for the editing of facial features (unless someone has a red eye or something) and more for their equally clever feature of the patch tool. I think of the patch tool essentially as a 'tidy up' sort of tool. If someone has a mark or stain on their clothes, the patch tool can get rid of it in an instant. I also often take photos in Lily's bedroom which has a white carpet that shows up a lot of fluff. The patch tool enables me to get rid of the fluff in seconds and so I don't have to worry about any sort of hoovering before I take a photo, which is a blessed relief! Facetune also has a fantastic brightening tool which can brighten up even the darkest of my indoor photographs.

My final go to editing app is PicsArt. This one was a fairly recent discovery after looking for an app to collage my photos and struggling to find one that was easy to use or that offered the kind of collage frames I was after without having to pay. Finally I came across PicsArt, an app that is straight forward to use and offers a whole heap of collages for free. This app is perfect for me because I like to collage my photos on Instagram at the end of each month and it allows me to do so quickly and with great ease. Aside from the collage section PicsArt also offers features such as magic effects and drawing tools however I tend to keep away from those myself. PicsArt also offers some really lovely whimsical style filters which I have found myself using on my photography account more than once to enhance my photos. A great all rounder app and very pleasantly surprising that it's free as it would be more than worth paying for!

So those are my three favourite editing apps. I don't think I could manage without them! Do you have a favourite editing app or are you familiar with any of the ones mentioned above? I'd love to hear!

  5. Ooh I hadn't heard of these. I have an iPhone 7plus and I must admit I really haven't got to grips with the camera yet. I'll check out those apps though.

  7. I've blogged about my favourites before, but I used to use snapseed a lot for adjusting colour, but I find the iphone inbuilt photo editing tool sufficient for most things now. My new favourite is Retouch which I bought after Aby Moore recommended it. It can remove bits from photo's really well like creases on a top! It doesn't always work so sometimes I have to use Lightroom, but if you look at the quick demo Aby did it shows just how well it can work.

  8. Great list, Abbie!
Picsart has always been my favorite app for making beautiful collage.
Just wanted to know, does A Color Story allow pictures to be saved in high resolution? Most apps that I tried for taking pictures with filters or editing saved the images in poor resolution that did not look good on a computer screen!
Recommendation- do try VSCO, the best features are available for free and turns your phone camera into a DSLR.
