This year I've been really into having Lily make a lot of our christmas decorations. For one, money this year is a lot tighter than last but besides that I think it's just nice to have some personal decoration that actually mean something to you and your family and that can remain a constant through each festive season as your child grows. Last year Lily was too little to attempt anything remotely DIY, infact I think she was barely holding her own head up! (although we did put her teeny tiny footprints on a bauble that will now be on our tree for all the years to come.) So this year we wanted to take full advantage of all things art and crafts!

These are my favourites of the decorations she's done so far -

I think adding that personal touch to your christmas decor is definitely the way forward for us!

DIY Christmas Decs

Saturday 29 November 2014

I kid you not, today has been one of those days that has just been in short plain miserable.

Due to an impromptu v&d bug that came over me last night (nice I know) James has had to take the day off work to look after Lily, which isn't bad to say this is the first time he's had to take the day off to help me in Lilys whole 2 years and 1 month of life. Not the best timing when he has a lot of work to do though, and attempting to work from home with a clingy whiney high temperatured toddler who just wants to climb all over him is a less than ideal situation. The weather for the last 72 hours has been this insanely thick damp fog that's left us all feeling constantly shivery, so letting her play in the garden to cheer her up has been a no no too.

Luckily by 1.30 in the afternoon super granny had freed up her plans and took Lily over to hers, leaving James free to get on with his complicated looking work and leaving me spending the afternoon pondering how we as parents are left feeling completely incompetent and helpless when taken over by a (however fleeting) illness that leaves us unable to look after/entertain our children in the way in which we would want and in which they are accustomed.

It's fair to say any joy I might have gotten from a sick day before having Lily - laying in bed, dozing on and off and watching friends re-runs has been tinged with a feeling of guilt that my child, who isn't 100% herself also, is without me.

That being said, I'm sure granny can cheer her up a lot more than I can considering the state I'm currently in. Infact she's probably having a whale of a time and hasn't been thinking of me at all! ;-)

Here's to feeling better soon!

Grey Days

Friday 28 November 2014

So a long drawn out afternoon lead me to decide to do the toddler make up challenge with Lily, ie let her do my makeup by herelf! I knew this would be something she'd enjoy doing as she's really taken an interest in make up recently. She always watches me when I put it on and asks what each item is and where it goes, so when I asked her if SHE wanted to do it today, she jumped at the chance!

The results were pretty funny I have to say...

I love the eyebrow she's tried to draw on miles above my actual eyebrow haha! Needless to say she was very pleased with her results and proudly declared 'mummy looks pretty!'
Bless her soul!

Lily does my makeup!

This Saturday we went to James' grandmas (or Gigi as Lily calls her!) 90th birthday. I was a bit worried as Lily had downright refused to nap before hand which is most unlike her and just typical! and as I knew we were going to be there all afternoon I thought Lily might be grumpy and stroppy.
Isabels party was at a lovely pub restaurant in the country side and we had a section of it cornered off for her guests and a lovely buffet!

Despite being there for four hours straight Lily was really well behaved and didnt get bored or tired at all. Some pens and paper and Gigi's giant 90th balloon was enough to keep her occupied!

(I just love this picture!)

On sunday we had a pretty relaxed day. The morning was spent playing with lego and watching Peppa DVD's and in the afternoon I took Lily to the park to meet some family whilst James did a house tidy.

How was your weekend?

It's a solid ... no, it's a liquid ... no, a solid ... no ... wait, what is it? It's gloop! It’s a fascinating, curious substance that has properties of both a liquid and a solid. This activity is a little messy, but it's definitely worth it. Gloop will mesmerise your toddler, and probably you, too! *babycentre

Today was one of those afternoons where we had a lot of free time ahead of us and not a lot to do! The weather outside wasn't pleasant and I had a headache and therefore wasn't particularly wanting to venture outside so I decided to do some messy play with Lily to pass the time. We decided to make gloop as it's quick and easy, just add water to cornflour, stir and there you have it! Lily actually sat there and played with it for a good 45 minutes which is longer than she'd play with any of her toys and after she was done I found it was really easy to clean as it came away with water with no issues.

Watch my video here to see how we got on :)

Messy Play

Wednesday 19 November 2014

This weekend we decided to bite the bullet and put up our christmas decs! Last year we put them up in December and it felt like they were only up for two minutes before they had to come down again so I vowed to put them up early this year. On Saturday we went round the shops to purchase a few christmassy bits and bobs which ended up taking agges, although luckily Lily was well behaved the whole time! Then when Lily had gone to bed me and James spent the evening putting it all up. The next morning Lily came downstairs and the first thing she said was 'Wooow' when she saw the Christmas tree! <3 I'm so excited for christmas this year because I know Lily's going to appreciate it that much more.

Each year it's my intention to do a birthday shoot for Lilys birthday so that I have them to look back on. Rather than pay for someone else to take the photos I decided to do them myself for as long as you have a semi decent camera and the right lighting, props and background the pictures should (hopefully!) turn out well.

We struggled with Lily's birthday shoot  last year as she was at crawling age and would not keep still for love nor money (!) but this year it was a lot easier as I filled her cot up with balloons and snapped away as she happily played.

A simple book and bunting made great props here*

Overall I'm really pleased with the finished results. Happy birthday baby girl!

Lily's birthday shoot

Friday 14 November 2014

This weekend we took Lily to go and meet her new baby cousin, Bigby! I knew she'd love him because she's obsessed with babies and she did, she absolutely adored him! He is just the sweetest little thing. After Lily gave him plenty of kissed and strokes on the head we left to back home for Lilys nap. After a hearty lunch of garlic baguette and veg we went over to James parents so Lily could see her other little cousin Ava.

Today is Sunday and we have a poorly little munchkin :( I shouldve known there was something wrong when she slept all through the night and woke up at EIGHT thirty (unheard of in this household!) Poor little thing has a temperature of 38.9 and is cutting her painful back teeth. ITs 2pm and so far we've just had a pyjama day but if Lily perks up we may take her for a little wander, the crisp autumn air may do her some good! :)

Sunday 9 November 2014

This Wednesday my beautiful little baby girl turned 2! I still cant quite believe it, she is SO grown up now but still so baby like in so many ways.

We had a lovely day, although the whole day went far too fast! Lily woke up at about quarter past 7 (trust her birthday to be the one day she has a lie in!) and we came downstairs.. she was totally hyper and excited by all the balloons we'd blown up in the living room!  After some breakfast at her new big girl table we decided to go for a early morning walk down to the lake to feed the ducks, which was lovely but cold! After coming back and opening presents Lily had a mammoth nap and we decided to go to harewood house for an hour or two before the doing the rounds to see both sets of parents. She had a lovely time seeing our parents and got some lovely presents and after coming home and blowing out the candles on her cake she was suitably exhausted and went straight to bed!
You can watch how we spent the day on my youtube channel here - Lily's birthday

I honestly cant believe her 2nd birthday has come round so quickly, it seems like just yesterday I was going in to be induced. Here are some one to two year differences;

I am so blessed to be this gorgeous little girls mummy and love watching her grow, learn and explore the world around her :)
