Lansinoh Electric Breast Pump Review

Thursday 9 June 2016

'How are you feeding them?' is one of the Q's you hear the most when you have a little baby. Every time I'm asked how I'm feeding Arch and I tell people I'm doing mixed feeding it's always met with a bit of a '???' reaction. The questions that usually follow are 'What is that?' and 'How does that work?' and the truth is that mixed feeding wouldn't have been at all possible for me to do without the use of an electric breast pump.

I'm sure all parents have heard of electric breast pumps but for those who are unaware an electric breast pump is a device that allows you to express your milk. There's several reasons why mothers choose to express their milk. For me I decided to express for a few different reasons rather than just one. I'm breastfeeding but expressing means that James still gets the chance to feed his son and enjoy that bonding process and should I have to leave Arch for any reason I don't have to worry about him not taking a bottle. It also means I get a bit of a break from breastfeeding, which sometimes is much needed, especially on those cluster feeding days! Whatever your reason for expressing, it essentially means that your baby is still getting the benefit of your milk, which is great.

Lansinoh's Electric Breast Pump has allowed me to feed Arch the way I wanted to do and has meant I have had a successful experience with mixed feeding so far. The pump is so different to the rickety old one I had when Lily was a newborn, I guess times have moved on some what! The Lansinoh pump has been cleverly designed to have 6 different suction levels so you can adjust the speed and strength of the pump to suit you. It also has two different 'phases' - the let down phase which is a rapid suction designed to stimulate and initiate milk flow and the expression phase which is a slower deeper suction to maximise milk flow.
This is much more high tech than my basic old pump I used with Lily which had just the one setting and I can really see the difference with the amount of milk I can get out.

There are many other bonus points to this pump such as how quiet it is. Unlike my old pump which was so loud I swear you could hear it streets away, the Lansinoh pump is so quiet that I can watch the tele whilst expressing and actually be able to hear what's going on! Such a novelty haha. I also really like the fact that it's easy to put together and takes batteries as well as using the mains which means it can be used outside of the house if needed.

The pump also comes with storage bags for your milk which is handy as with a lot of companies you have to buy them separately which can be expensive as well as a bottle with a natural wave teat that is designed to mimic a baby's natural feeding pattern.

Expressing isn't for everyone but if it's the route you're wanting to go down then the Lansinoh electric breast pump really seems to have everything covered.
