Birthday girls

Saturday 31 October 2020

Half term saw the girls turn one and eight and although covid put pay to any bigger birthday plans we may have had we still managed to have a nice few days celebrating!

Ivy's birthday actually fell on the last day of term so we had a bit of one on one time with her whilst L & A were at school.  There wasn't much to do options wise what with the rubbish weather and the whole of Leeds teetering on the brink of tier 3, in fact the day itself was pretty symbolic of how her entire first year on earth has been - stuck at home with little to do thankyouverymuchcorona, but she enjoyed playing with her new toys and having an entire cake to herself so it wasn't all bad.

At one years old Ivy is a treasure.

She's fiercely independent, as she has been from day one, and is always on the go. She's quite literally incapable of sitting still for a single second of the day and it's tiring but also so endearing. She smiles and laughs constantly, but will use her voice to shout at you if you do something she doesn't like. She's our little firecracker and as I've mentioned in previous updates she fully rules our household. She's in charge of us all and she knows it.

We can't imagine life without her.

Lily's birthday came six days later and we took her to Forbidden Corner for the day which is something that's become a bit of a birthday tradition for her. It rained heavily and pretty much non stop and we all got soaked but it added to the fun of it!

I can't believe I have an eight year old now. She's 8 going on 18 with her sass and constant concerns about the latest fashion and all the latest technologies  - but she's also the most kind hearted caring 8 year old who wouldn't hurt a fly if you paid her to do so. She makes me ache with how proud I am of her and the young lady she's growing in to. Even if it is bittersweet seeing her hurtling towards those teenage years so fast.

In between the girls birthdays we put a little spread on for them both and had our family bubble round. (for more photo's check out week in pictures #55) It was cute doing a joint birthday for them but I do wonder how long Lily's going to happily share a party with her baby sister before she starts demanding them to be on different days ðŸ˜‚ For now she was more than happy to share though and we had a good afternoon all round.

It will be interesting to see where we are in the world by the girls next birthdays. Will we still all be under the thumb of covid? Will things be starkly different or remain the same? Are proper birthday parties going to be a thing of the past? I guess we'll see with time, but for now, we made the best of a bleak situation - both girls spent their birthdays smiling and that's more than enough for me.
