Why Nothing Compares to Granny's House...

Friday 8 May 2015

'Mummy, can we go to grannys house today?' is something I hear every single morning without fail and to be honest it drives me a little crazy!

I should probably explain that my mum, Lily's granny, is a child minder and her house is basically a children's paradise. She has a giant playroom with more toys crammed into it than you'd think possible, any game that Lily could desire and the cherry on the cake is that there's always kids running around for Lily to play with!

I'm happy that Lily loves being at granny's house so much, they have a great relationship and it means I can leave her there if I need to run errands and I don't have to worry about her getting bored and fed up or wanting to go home immediately. I know a lot of parents struggle to leave their children with their grandparents and find the whole ordeal rather stressful so I appreciate that we don't have that issue, but I just have the nagging question in the back of my mind..am I always going to be competing with granny's magical house of toys and wonder?! Is Lily still going to be begging to go there every single day of her childhood up until she's a teen and stops being interested in toys? Will I ever stop hearing the words 'No I dont want to go home mummy' from my daughters lips when I come to collect her?

So yes, you can see from the photographs just why Lily loves being at granny's house so much and I totally get it because if I was a 2 year old I cant think of anywhere else I'd rather be either. However the needy parent inside me sometimes just longs to hear her say, at least just once, 'mummy..lets stay home and play today, just you and me'

  4. Ah, it's nothing personal mama - there is just a sh*t load of toys there!! There will be days when she just wants to be with you - I'm sure of it. :)

As someone who doesn't have any help with childcare whatsoever, I can't feel too sorry for ya I'm afraid. Make the most of it. :)
