Why the odd day of rain isn't always a bad thing

Monday 18 May 2015

First of all, notice I say the odd day, haha. I mean don't get me wrong, I love sunshine as much as the next cold and fed up Brit but yesterday's down pour really reminded me what good fun the rain can be.

When it started raining yesterday it was around midday and Lily was having a nap. It wasn't the usual stop and start kind of rain we usually experience, it was those kind of massive raindrops that make the sky go black. They came down ferociously, making an almighty racket against the window and it was actually so loud I was a little worried it would wake Lily from her slumber (it didn't).

Picture me sat in my dimly lit living room, pyjamas on, fire on, feet up, wrapped in my favourite Primark throw and I sat and listened to the rain for what felt like hours. Days even. And then when Lily woke up she came and cuddled under my blankets and listened to the rain with me and it was just the most picturesque peaceful moment.

Later that afternoon when James got back from work he suggested a walk in the rain and I thought well why the heck not!? We set off marching through the rain like three musketeers with our raincoats and three different sized umbrellas, big, little and small and made our way to the park. I reckon we would have looked funny to any passers by but there wasn't a soul around. And when we got to the park it was completely empty too, not a person in sight, and it felt like the world was ours. Lily stamped in enormous puddles and threw sticks and leaves into overflowing streams to watch them race and I was reminded that really, the rain can be rather magical.

So here are some reasons why the rain isn't always a bad thing -
  1. It makes being inside 100x cozier
  2. It's the perfect excuse for staying indoors and having a lazy day
  3. But equally the perfect way to entertain your kids by going on a rainy walk. All you really need is a raincoat and wellies and be prepared to have to bath them as soon as you get in ;
  4. & last but not least, it helps flowers grow..and who doesnt like flowers!?

  1. Lovely post. I felt exactly like this today. It was absolutely bucketing down outside and I felt super cozy all snuggled up in my dressing gown. I do hope it doesn't last all week though. ;)
