Plans for The Childrens First Holiday

Tuesday 3 January 2017

I always feel twinges of jealousy when I see snaps of people holiday-ing with their children, looking so carefree and like they're all having the time of their lives. Lily turned 4 this year and she still hasn't been out of the UK and in 2017 I'm determined that she gets that opportunity. This might sound strange to some but I've been pondering on where to take the kids for their first holiday for quite a while now and I keep coming back to the coldest of places. Places like Switzerland and Finland. Don't get me wrong, I love beach holidays - I've been on quite a few in my younger more carefree years (booze cruise in kavos anyone?) but there's something that gives me anxiety about the kids being in hot countries whilst their still so young.
Where I'm Greek and have olive skin both the kids actually have James' fair complexion and I'd imagine they both will burn easily. Add on top of that how miserable kids can get in the heat and the fact that James is like a big baby in the heat too I dont know, the idea of holidaying in the sun with kids just doesn't seem all that appealing right now.

Snowy places though..that's something that really appeals to me. For a start it's something new to me I've never been anywhere remotely cold (lovely old Yorkshire doesn't count!) and I've always wanted to go somewhere that's snowy. Log cabins, burning fires, wintery woods and ski-ing..well that just sounds like heaven.
I've even been sat here thinking about what we would pack for this specific trip. The camera most definately (how amazing would the photo ops be?!) Thermal clothing (see here) for myself and James and winter jackets (see here) for the kids. Not forgetting snow boots for us all too. All the above can be found on Engelbert Strauss, which offers everything we could possibly need for a wintery holiday and more!

I'm so excited for this to become a reality. I really hope it does. Watch this space!
