Weekend Watch - 5.5.18

Thursday 10 May 2018

In a couple of months we'll definitely all be looking back on this bank holiday and saying ..'remember that bank holiday where we had sun?' I mean it never happens does it? There's some unspoken rule that every bank holiday has to be rainy and miserable and so this particular bank holiday sunshine was an unexpected but very pleasant surprise.

I'm happy to say we certainly made the most of it.

On Saturday I left the kids at home with James to do a 10 mile uphill hike through Malham with my family for my aunties birthday. In the baking heat, and with the general lack of exercise I do it was bloody HARD and I nearly gave up a few times..but I did it! and really enjoyed it! It was strangely empowering to be honest, and so nice to spend time with family. If I was proud of myself for completing it it was nothing for how proud I was of my auntie. She's 52 and has stage 4 terminal lung cancer and powered up Malham without a single complaint. And then bought us all ice creams at the end. The woman's a machine and puts us all to shame, I flippin love her.

The best part of Sunday was spent being lazy in the sun. I did take the kids for a walk in the sun in the morning whilst James did the food shop, which you can see in the photos below where Lily is wearing a yellow dress and Archer a black tshirt. All the bluebells are out in our local wood and it looks stunning. The afternoon was spent at James parents BBQ'ing.

On Monday we spent the day at Newby Hall. I love that place and we always have a good time when we go but this time it was far too overcrowded to do much of anything. The queues for the boat rides, ice-cream kiosk and water park were just insane and so we had to skip those but we did manage the steam train, bear house and exploring of the gardens. We'll definately go back, just maybe when its less busy.
