Week in Pictures #31

Wednesday 2 January 2019

As I sit down to write this I can hear Archer in the next room playing with his sisters new karaoke set and singing George Ezra at the top of his lungs.

It's cute. His little voice singing his heart out to lyrics he doesn't yet understand.

Honestly this holiday has been pretty close to perfect and that's not something I ever thought I'd say.

You hear people describe trips and visits and breaks and whatnot as perfect all the time and I often find myself thinking but was it ACTUALLY perfect? Are you sure you're not glamorising here? You're really telling me there's not a single thing you'd change?
But the Oxford dictionary definition of perfect is having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be and yeah when I think about this Christmas break that sounds pretty spot on to me.

I actually didn't put any extra effort or pressure on myself for Christmas this year and I think that helped a ton.
The kids ate more sweets than I would normally allow, they've had more screen time than is probably healthy and the house has remained messy for longer than I would normally be okay with. There were no big expensive Christmas days out this year, (bar our annual sundown trip) and instead we stayed in the house when we fancied being lazy, took the kids out for walks when they (and we!) needed it and I ate cereal for tea more than once when I couldn't be bothered to cook and didn't so much as judge myself even a tiny bit.

Life is much less demanding and much more manageable when you take all the unnecessary pressure and guilt off yourself I think.
I just can't believe it's taken me 28 years to come to that realisation and put it in to practise.
