Week in Pictures #40 - Ivy's first few weeks of life

Sunday 10 November 2019

We did it! We survived October half term with a 7 going on 17 year old, a pre schooler and a newborn!

Ivy is now 2 and a half weeks old, James' paternity leave has ended, the older two are back at school and nursery and I'm at home with the baby trying to navigate our new normal.

We're getting there. Slowly. There's beauty in the chaos and all that!

Here's what we've been up to during Ivy's first two weeks of life.

These photos were taken on James last day before going back to work. We went on a little wander with Ivy to my favourite greenhouses before collecting the kids from school and it was a lovely way to spend his last day of paternity leave.

The photos from this particular day will always stick in my mind and make me smile. It was our first attempt at leaving the house with all three kids and it was disastrous. We'd aimed to go for a walk early afternoon and by the time we'd got everyone sorted and packed the thousand and one items you need for a newborn it was closer to tea time than it was lunch. Despite the minimal daylight and it being bitterly cold the kids didn't mind, opting to eat ice creams whilst the sun was setting and as I sat there on that bench with the three of them I felt proud of us for managing to make the effort to get out.

(Please someone tell me it gets easier in the future though 😂)

An early morning walk on Lily's 7th birthday.

We went to the cafe in the local park and paid an extortionate price for hot chocolates that the kids had one sip of and decided they didn't like. 🙄

However most of our days have been spent indoors with blankets, the log burner constantly going and a whole lot of Netflix. Just how I like it. And just how I pictured the newborn bubble to be but never experienced previously. Hibernation in all it's serenity. As we head fully into the Winter months now, long may it last.
