Weekend Watch - Pumpkin Picking

Tuesday 25 October 2016

We've not been having the best time of late hence why blog posts have become a bit sparse. We've not had chance to get out and do much and therefore there just hasn't been much to write about recently. I think everyone begins to slow down a bit when summer comes to an end and the weather turns cold again and naturally it's meant a lot of time indoors.

We started Sunday at the grand old time of 5am. Thanks to a certain little boy who doesn't like lie ins. I never enjoy going downstairs in the morning because the house feels especially freezing and so much of the early hours was spent on the sofa with a duvet watching my little pony re runs with Arch (his current favourite.)

After seeing a million and one pumpkin patch photos on Instagram I managed to source one fairly close to us in Harrogate at Birchwood ice cream farm. (Which happens to be a lovely little farm for anyone who might be local.) We arrived pretty late thanks to the rain and the traffic and most of the pumpkins were gone by the time we got there which was a bit of a fail but Lily managed to choose two pumpkins for herself and Archer so she was pleased.

Both kids seemed a little off all day and I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong. Probably teething for Arch (when isn't it?) but Lily seemed very sleepy and grumpy which is unlike her. I think we were all just having a lethargic day though - maybe she was picking up on my mood?
Late afternoon and after we got back from Harrogate I left James to put the kids to bed, which is no easy task these days, and went off to the hospital. We've been visiting my grandma who took a nasty fall on Friday and she's not doing very well. It's horrible seeing someone who has been so strong and independent their whole lives looking so small and helpless. She's an incredible woman who I love very much and I'm preying she'll be better soon.
I arrived home to a very hyper Lily who seemed gleeful about the fact she was still up. James informed me that she had just been in the middle of making a video for me because she'd been missing me. She's a little diamond.
After she was in bed I sat down to do a bit of online browsing, It's Lily's birthday in a week and where I'm usually so organised I have nothing sorted thanks to recent circumstances. Trying not to panic!
So it's not been the best of weekends, but far from the worst. There's been good moments in-between the stressful ones and I'm hoping that by next weekend this lethargic feeling, which seems to be weighing me down, will have eased.
