34 Week Update

Monday 4 January 2016

34 weeks..crazy! It's been the last week of the Christmas holidays and as I'm typing this it's the last day before we return back to the normality of Monday mornings tomorrow. James is off back to work, Lily's back at nursery and I'll be waiting in all day for the plumbers to fix our broken bath seal. Oh joy!

Probably the most interesting news from this week is that I've been given a consultant appointment for 36 weeks where we'll sit down and figure out an induction date for me. It will be nice to finally a plan of action! The midwife said the induction could be at 37 weeks or 38 weeks depending on how my blood levels are doing at the time. Although I'm so uncomfortable and could quite happily no longer be pregnant right now I think I'd prefer a 38 week induction to a 37 just because it gives me more time to get the house sorted. Either way it will be useful to finally get a set date in my mind as to when the baby will be coming!

My itching this week has definitely been the worst so far. I stopped taking my anti histamines last week as they were making me so drowsy. I'd asked the midwife about it and she said I technically didn't need to take them if I felt I could cope without. I thought I could but after being up all night itching I think I'm going to have to start taking them again. My poor arms are red and sore from all the scratching and it's non stop.

This week sciatica has also made an appearance and oh my god it's horrible! At least I think it's sciatica. Or maybe SPD. I'm not too sure, all I know is that I'm physically incapable of doing anything right now!  Everything's such a struggle and it's driving me mad. I'm having to ask James to fetch everything for me and I hate that as I like to do things for myself. It's also making me worried about how I'm going to cope looking after Lily when he goes back to work since I currently can't even get up the stairs by myself. The pain starts at the bottom of my back but only on the left hand side and every time I move it shoots down my left leg. I've tried everything from warm and cold compresses to hot baths and elevating my feet but the pain is just constant. A quick google brought me to the conclusion that it's sciatica but really I have no idea. Calling all experts - does this sound like sciatica to you?

I don't think there's really too much else to report on this week. The baby started having hiccups as of last week and now it happens everyday, I love feeling it! I'm also feeling so heavy and I worked out yesterday that my weight gain currently stands at about 34 lbs. I started at 8 stone 6 and I'm currently 10 stone 12 so I'm going to have a lot to try and lose once the baby here but I'm not even thinking about that right now! I do want to start eating healthier in these last few weeks though and see if it makes a difference. Luckily I have no stretchmarks this time round although there's still time for that too! I have a feeling I might get some in the very last weeks but we'll have to see.

I have a midwife appt on Tuesday, the first one since 28 weeks so hopefully I'll have more to update on in next weeks update. Until then you can check out my previous updates here and my 34 week video update here.

  1. I just discovered your blog through the #MaternityMondays linky, I'm 31 weeks so a little bit behind you. Haven't read your other posts yet but it sounds like you're having a rough pregnancy, hope that improves over the next weeks. I have SPD, got it at 30 weeks with my first and 6 weeks this time round, and I've found osteopathy really helpful in keeping me mobile this time. A friend of mine said she had it for sciatica too so might be worth a try.

  2. Oh I hate sciatica. I had it with my first and I still suffer now and again but in pregnancy it should be illegal, you poor thing. Hope it passes. Try to keep walking and keep it warm xx #maternitymondays

  3. Not sure about the sciatica unfortunately, but hope you're feeling better soon. My first baby had hiccups and I was told by the midwife that she'd keep having them once she was born which she did - for months! I've not noticed any so far this pregnancy though xx
