37 Week Update - Last ever update

Monday 25 January 2016

Since I'm going in to be induced on Friday this 37 week update will be my last ever update and I feel so emotional about it. I've really enjoyed the routine of documenting this pregnancy and although it will be soon replaced by regular baby updates instead I'll be sad to see them stop. It feels like the end of an era!

Before I start getting too emotional though I thought I'd quickly go through my 37 weeks symptoms. Exhaustion, sciatica and itching have been the main 3 things this week. My exhaustion levels are insane right now! I have been getting steadily tired-er the last few weeks but this week it has really hit it's peak. I've needed a nap every single day just to get me through and even after having one I still feel totally sedated! The sciatica is ever present and this is definitely the symptom I cant wait to get rid of the most! I've only had it for the last few weeks but I know some people get it a lot earlier on in their pregnancies and I dont know how they do it! I admire you ladies who do so much! The itching has been horrible this week too - definitely the worst week so far for it and my bile acid levels seem to be slowly rising which explains why. I'd like to say the menthol gel provided by the hospital and cool compresses are helping but really..nothing is! However knowing I only have a few days left of it is helping for sure.
Other than that there has been a few other minor symptoms such as lightening crotch and some break outs on my face but nothing too troublesome.

I can't lie to you all - this pregnancy has been tough. Tougher than I genuinely thought it would be. Clearly I was naive in thinking it might be easier this time around since my body has been through it all before but in fairness I have been through some things I wasn't expecting. From early pregnancy bleeding, to hyperemesis, cholestasis, polyhydramnious and a ton of aches and pains I never had with Lily. (Okay maybe I was half expecting the cholestasis but still!) It's also been harder mentally than I thought it would be and I never really prepared myself for the mum guilt that comes with not being able to do the things with your child that you could easily do before pregnancy.
Luckily, for the most part, Lily has been incredibly understanding when it comes to all of this and tells me off if I pick her up without thinking ("no lifting mummy, there's a baby in your tummy remember?") She 'helps' me do up my shoes and even brings me vital objects such as hairbrushes to scratch my skin with when I'm itching (thanks cholestasis!) On those earlier summer days of the hyperemesis, before my bump was even showing, she'd happily lay in bed all afternoon with me watching disney films, even though I knew she'd much rather be outside in the sunshine - she just never wanted to leave me on my own. She's been a gem, she really has, and this pregnancy has made me proud of my daughter in ways I wasn't expecting.

So yes, it's been a tough 9 months and a pretty bloody long pregnancy as it goes but it's also been amazing and made us all closer as a family unit.

I'll definitely miss my gigantic bump.
I'll miss Lily laying her head on it, chatting away and pretending to give the baby food through my belly button. I'll miss playing the preggo card with James and getting him to make me as many cups of tea as I require because the kitchen is just toooo far away and I'll miss the endless amount of baths I've been able to have. I'll even miss my insane craving for flannels!
But of course when one door closes another one opens and this time next week I'll be writing all about our brand new baby instead of moaning about all my pregnancy aches (although I'm sure there'll be a fair bit of moaning in my new updates too!)
I'm excited for our family and what the future is going to bring. It's finally time to close this chapter and move on to a bigger and better one.

Thanks to everyone whose been with me on this pregnancy journey, as there's been a fair few of you who have been in touch and I'm grateful for you all. See you on the other side!
