My Third Trimester Essentials

Friday 22 January 2016

Now that I'm officially full term and at the end of my pregnancy I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my saviours from the third trimester. It's been a very uncomfortable third trimester for me and these items have helped beyond belief!

A - Belly bands. These have been a life saviour for me. I've made no secret of the fact my bump is waay bigger this time round, it sticks out a lot more and I cant wear 95% of my tops now without my bump showing out the bottom ha. These bands have meant that I dont need to worry about my skin being on display and have also helped keep bump warm in these winter months! Belly bands can be expensive but I found this pack of 3 from New Look for £9.99 and they totally do the trick

B - Diary. This might seem like a bit of a weird one but my diary has helped me so much the past few months! I've had total case of baby brain in this trimester what with there being so much going on and jotting down dates in my diary has helped me keep track of all my midwife and hospital appointments along with other things such as training days at Lily's nursery that I definitely would have otherwise forgotten! A calendar would work just as well too.

C - Slip on trainers. Pumps. Plimsolls, whatever you want to call them - they're all I've been wearing this trimester! It may not exactly be the season for it what with all the wet weather but the boots I'd usually wear have straps on and it was just becoming too much effort having to bend down and do up and undo the straps several times a day. Primark do a great range of cheap pumps so you can stock up and not have to worry about them getting ruined in the winter weather!

D - Maternity vests. Again, another life saver for me! Maternity vest tops, or at least the ones I found in New look are super long and like with the New Look belly bands I dont have to worry about having any excess skin on display when wearing them. They're super stretchy and comfy and I've even been wearing them under dresses as they keep me nice and warm!

E - 4Head stick. I suffer from regular headaches and migraines and I've struggled with not being able to take my usual painkillers throughout this pregnancy. This 4head stick has a cool menthol feeling when you apply to your head and has been a real help through out the last 9 months. I've even packed one in my hospital bag for labour!

F - Hot water bottle. I've suffered with so many aches and pains this trimester and I wasn't really prepared for it as I didn't suffer too badly with Lily's pregnancy. Back ache, hip pain, braxton hicks, sciatica..and the only two things that have helped has been a hot water bottle and baths. I actually bought some sticky heat pads from the pharmacy that were specifically for back ache but found that the warming effect didn't last very long and they kept peeling off - a hot water bottle was much more effective so I'd suggest avoiding the expensive remedies and just going for the good ol' tradition HWB instead. I've been curling up with one most evenings, I dont know where I'd have been without it!

So there we have it - my third trimester essentials! The third tri can be an uncomfortable time and I hope this helps anyone approaching the third trimester who may be suffering with similar pregnancy issues.
I'd also be intrigued to know what you found helpful in your third trimester if you've been through it too!
