I've been a bit behind with writing this post as I intended to write it on Sunday and its now Tuesday. I've been really poorly though and Lily's been sleeping really badly which hasn't helped so the days are sort of rolling into one right now!

Out & About

Lily went to a CBeebies event at our local shopping centre on Saturday. I'll write more about it in a separate post but it was absolutely fantastic and she loved it. She even got a wave off Mr Bloom himself!

Weekly Round Up #2

Tuesday 31 March 2015

I'll be the first to admit that I've gone waaay OTT with Lily's Easter basket this year! I talked in a previous post about how much I love Easter and all things to do with bunnies so it was hard not to get carried away! I wanted to start off the tradition of Easter Baskets but felt like Lily was a bit too small last year so have started this year instead. I want her Easter Baskets to be less about chocolate and more about all things crafty and colourful as I'm sure she'll be getting plenty of chocolate eggs from relatives when she gets older!

I went into town yesterday and set myself a budget of £10 but like I said, I may have got slightlyyy carried away so that budget has been completely blown out of the water.. oh well ;)

So, what's in Lily's Easter basket?

This weekend outfit was actually taken on a Friday..our one day of sun! We spent most of the day in the garden so I put her in casual playing clothes. I love her grey panda top! It's long sleeved but very light material so perfect for spring temperatures. It was from H&M and I think it was around £4. It's slightly oversized but I think it looks sweet! Her jeggings are from Mothercare and they were around the £10 mark. They're super stretchy and a great fit. Finally her white strawberry pumps are from Next and I'm in love with them!

Love this new linky - Thanks Nicola! I keep telling myself to take more photos of me and Lily together as the majority of my pictures are just her.. so now I have the perfect excuse to ;)!

This picture was taken for mothers day. We'd just set off for a mothers day walk and I didn't realise James was taking it. We were in mid conversation about how to safely cross the road at the bottom of the hill haha!

Mummy & Me - March

Friday 27 March 2015

I've been wanting to write this sort of post for a while now. Mainly so I can look back in a year or so's time and read about Lily's 2 year old self.. to help remember any of the little things that may have slipped my mind.

But where do you begin with a post like this!? There's just so much to talk about! As I write this post Lily is currently 2 years and 5 months. So not far off 2 and a half. I feel like her biggest leap has been in the last 6 months since turning two, and this is mainly down to her vocabulary and conversation skills. Now that she's talking we have a completely different kind of relationship to what we used to. Its hard to explain exactly how the parent-child relationship changes once your children start talking but I'm sure mothers who have older kids know what I'm talking about.

On the back of my other post titled 'My Top 10 Pointless Parenting Purchases' I thought it would be only fair to name my top 10 best purchases to date. Things that we've purchased and could not have been without. If you're a soon-to-be first time parent, or perhaps if you've already got young children, hopefully this list will influence you to make the right choices the first time round and save you some hassle in the long run.

If you're anything like me then you are forever losing your house keys! I would spent at least 10 minutes turning the house upside down looking for my keys before I could leave the house. Finally, I decided to do something about it and made a key hook...

I've decided to start joining in with Katy & Jenna's happy days linky on a Sunday so that I can give a complete roundup of each week. I love the concept behind this linky, seeing the positives in day to day occurrences so here are my highlights from this week;

Out and About

I've actually been out and about a fair bit this week. We managed to make it to the parent and toddler groups on a Monday and Thursday afternoon & I'm so glad we made the effort as Lily really benefits from them. On Tuesday the weather was lovely and so we spent the day at the park and in the evening I had my first taste of going to the bingo hall (such a strange experience..dont ask!)

Fun at Home

This week we've managed to have the patio doors open most days which has been great as it means Lily can come in and out as she pleases. She's enjoyed spending her time outside and taking her toys from inside out into the garden and I've enjoyed sitting on the sofa with a cuppa watching her and enjoying the peace! ;)

Weekly Roundup

Sunday 22 March 2015

As you all probably already know yesterday morning was the solar eclipse. The last time a solar eclipse occurred I was just a kid and my parents took me and my brothers to the top of the moors to watch it and I remember it being so exciting. Me, my mum and cousin decided to do the same again this time round so we packed a picnic and off we went to the moors at 8am in the morning.

I don't know exactly what it is about Easter but it's always been one of my favourite holidays. Could it be the fact that I'm given ample opportunity to eat chocolate without feeling guilty? Or the fact that I adore bunnies and what's Easter if not all about bunnies?! (like seriously my obsession is unreal.. if James would let me do a complete bunny theme in Lily's bedroom I'd be on that in an instant!)

Why I'm SO looking forward to Easter

...that is the question.

ISOFIX is an expensive and sometimes restrictive technology to buy into if you're in the market for a new car seat, but it does have its advantages. But do these outweigh its disadvantages?

What exactly is ISOFIX?

ISOFIX stands for 'International Standards Organisation Fix’. It is an alternative method of fixing your car seats without the need for seatbelts and is safer, quicker and easier.

To ISOFIX or not to ISOFIX?

Tuesday 17 March 2015

We couldn't celebrate Mothers Day on Sunday due to some personal family reasons so James very kindly took Monday off work and we made Monday into our mothers day instead. The day started off with a lie in, followed by breakfast in bed which included two cards from Lily, a teddy bear, box of chocolates and buns! It was all much appreciated and the naughty food was heavenly after a week of doing Slimming world!

Mother's Day

Yesterday the weather was rubbish and I knew we wouldn't be leaving the house so I decided to put Lily in a comfy top and leggings. The leggings I've had for a while and feature a gorgeous cat print from Primark. The navy long sleeved top is from Next, I think it was only around £5 or £6 and the quality of the material is brilliant! Bow is from Clares Accessories sale rack for £1.50 :)

What are your little ones wearing this weekend?

We’ve all been there.. you’ve bought something which you thought would be useful but it’s spent most of its time gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere! This is never truer than those impulsive buys you make when you’re expecting your first child. You buy anything and everything to ensure that you are prepared for all eventualities; you even buy 2 or 3 of the same thing just to be on the safe side... but then you find yourself with a surplus of unopened things that you end up throwing out or giving away!

Having just recently gone through the process of clearing out our most recent collection of clutter, I thought it would be a good idea to list out our most unnecessary purchases to date in the hope that it might help any first time mums to avoid making the same mistake!

This is me and Lily on our first ever mothers day. I love this photograph, we both look so happy! I'm not really sure what we're doing this mothers day.. it's really crept up on me! We usually just have a lazy morning and then go out for a mothers day lunch. Last year we drove to a pub in the countryside for a meal and to this day I honestly don't think I've had a better meal than that one, so we may do that again!

Not gonna lie, this week has been a bit of a rubbish week. I had 2 days of migraines at the start of the week then a traumatic dentist experience midweek (Root canal argh!) and now Lily's poorly and our awesome weekend plans are totally ruined. However I've decided to use Katy and Jenna's 'Happy Days' linky to try and see the positives in the past 7 days. I mean there must have been some good parts somewhere...right!?

On Monday (before that awful migraine came on) I took Lily to playgroup and she had a lovely time. I was helping Iris, a little one year old girl I'm very fond of with her painting and the next thing I know she rests her hand on my knee and this was the result...

Weekend Watch (Featuring Mon-Fri!)

Yesterday was soo sunny and warm I loved it! It really felt like spring was here which was nice after the freak snow showers Leeds has been having in the past week. I made the most of it and put Lily in one of her spring/summer outfits I've been waiting to put her in for ages! She's wearing a plain white vest from Primark with a plain white long sleeved top over it from Next. The floral skirt she's wearing is from Miley and Moss' Etsy store and I just adore it! It's so my kind of style.. I wish they did one in my size! It was a little more than I'd usually pay for a skirt (about £20) but I know she'll get lots of wear out of it throughout the summer so I was happy to pay a little bit more in this case!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend, whatever you're up to!

I've finally jumped on the book shelf band wagon! I actually bought Lily this book shelf from Ikea a good few months ago after seeing a lot of bloggers' photographs of them and thinking it would look great in her room. However James only got round to putting it up yesterday because, well, he's a man and likes to put everything off for as long as possible!!

I absolutely adore it and think these shelves are a great way to display your children's books. Lily likes it too and is suddenly showing much more interest in the books on that particular shelf! I'm hoping to buy a few more of these Ikea shelves as I'm in the process of creating a reading corner in her bedroom. You can buy them from Ikea here..or if you fancy spending a little less money you can always buy their £3.00 spice racks and paint them white.

Lily suffered from terrible colic as a baby and it was definitely the most challenging period for us as a family. Hopefully my experience and tips will help you to cope through this difficult period.

Firstly, what is colic?

According to the NHS; "Colic is the medical term for excessive, frequent crying in a baby who appears to be otherwise healthy and well fed. It is a common yet poorly understood condition, affecting up to one in five babies."

Dealing With Colic

Tuesday 3 March 2015

This weekend has been a pretty average one.. we haven't done much to write about if I'm honest! On Saturday we stayed inside most of the day watching Disney films and building LOTS of Lego towers..we were planning on going out but the weather was rubbish and Lily already has a cold so we didn't really want to risk making it worse. That evening I went on my first night out in ages and had a really good time. I was a bit nervous about leaving James to put Lily to bed as she's being quite a madam with her sleeping at the moment but turns out I had nothing to worry about :)
