Christmas and the days leading up to

Wednesday 28 December 2016

It's been a stressful old week which hasn't been ideal what with it being Christmas but such is life. In a way I think it's somewhat fitting that Christmas day was kind of pants this year because it more or less sums up how 2016 has been as a whole. Pants pants pants.

God that's a depressing start to this post.. It wasn't ALL bad I should say. The day itself I mean. I ended the day with the people I care about most in the world, my family, and that's more than a lot of people have. What a lot of people dream of. So I don't want this post to come off ungrateful and as though I'm just happily focusing on the negatives as that's genuinely not the case. But I can't pretend it was the best Christmas ever either. Because it wasn't. Not by a long shot.

It all started with a cough about 5 days before Christmas. I should have known really. As soon as one person gets a cough in our household everyone gets one. Lily came back on her last day of nursery with one and I'm not exaggurating when I say it was literally a matter of hours before Arch picked it up too.
By day 3 of the cough it had turned into a full blown cold on Archers behalf. Streaming nose, high temperature, refusing to eat or drink. Or sleep for that matter. The whole shebang. By the time Christmas day came around he was at his peak and the illest he's been so far. He was up all christmas Eve, just like the nights before and I was literally at swimming eyesight levels of exhaustion by Christmas morning.

[& by lunchtime that swimming vision had turned into a full blown migraine yay.]

The day was made massively better by Lilypad and her enthusiasm though. She's just a little gem and she had a great day. Her excitement on christmas morning was adorable, my little christmas saviour!

Might I add that we also had a great day spent at Sundown the weekend before christmas. It's still my absolute favourite place to go around Christmas and it never dissapoints so that was a highlight. Here's a photo of us from that day. We tried to get Lily in the picture too but she was too busy running off in all directions drunk on the excitement of christmas themed rides. Ha.

Back to christmas day and to briefly run through it we got to James parents at midday and Archer was so poorly and hysterical that I had to take him home for a sleep after just half an hour. Lily and James stayed on at his parents and had christmas dinner as it wasn't fair on Lily to have to come straight back home. Arch obviously needed the sleep though because he napped for HOURS. Till about 4pm. So basically I spent most of christmas day on my own curled up on the sofa with a pounding head whilst he slept. Not going to lie it was pretty miserable and I may have cried. haha.

He woke up in a slightly better mood and after some calpol we decided to go to my parents and see the rest of the family, which is where we ended the night. Things picked up a bit whilst we were there and my christmas spirit was restored at least a bit! And I do love spending time with my giant, crazy family so I'm glad we managed to go despite Archers flu.

I'll leave you with some photos of both the day itself and the days in the run up to christmas. In the midst of all the poorly related chaos I didn't get much chance to pick up the camera. Although I did get some nice photos of Archer trying on his christmas outfit a few days before Christmas. There are a few photos from Christmas day as well and I think you can tell how poorly he is in them. Thinking about it there's probably too much pressure out there to have the perfect Christmas day. Mine was far from perfect. But it was real, and I got to spent it with the people I love so overall I'm counting it as a win. So instead of saying I hope you all had the best christmas ever I'll just say - Happy Christmas to you all - I hope you got to spend it with the ones you care about most.
