Christmas is an expensive time of year, none more so than for a parent.

I'm not sure why exactly it is but we've been struggling more financially at this time of year than we have done previously (despite no change in our income.) I think it's because this is the first year we've really felt the pinch of buying presents for two children as last year Archer was young enough to find the wrapping paper as entertaining as he would any toy. And also perhaps because me and James have had new babies on both sides of the family, as well as a fair few of our friends. Thus meaning we've had more tiny little humans to buy gifts for this time around!

It's possible to find it all a bit overwhelming and whilst unfortunately I can't say I'm a dab hand at making DIY baby toys (that are safe and ethical anyhow!) I have however come up with some gifts for the grandparents that will mean more to them than the usual slippers and wine and also save on the pennies for us at the same time. Win win!

So without further ado

Three Gifts for Grandparents this Christmas that won't cost you a penny

Thursday, 21 December 2017

It's been a stressful old week which hasn't been ideal what with it being Christmas but such is life. In a way I think it's somewhat fitting that Christmas day was kind of pants this year because it more or less sums up how 2016 has been as a whole. Pants pants pants.

God that's a depressing start to this post.. It wasn't ALL bad I should say. The day itself I mean. I ended the day with the people I care about most in the world, my family, and that's more than a lot of people have. What a lot of people dream of. So I don't want this post to come off ungrateful and as though I'm just happily focusing on the negatives as that's genuinely not the case. But I can't pretend it was the best Christmas ever either. Because it wasn't. Not by a long shot.

Christmas and the days leading up to

Christmas is an exciting and therefore often highly emotional time for children. If you have more than one child at home, there’s lots you can do to ensure they all enjoy the festivities together, rather than arguing and bickering or getting jealous and competitive.

It’s a really good idea to make sure you spend some time with each child individually over the Christmas period. Find out what they would like to do and let them lead your time together to get the most from it. This ensures that nobody feels left out or sidelined in the excitement and business of preparations and also gives you the time to focus attention on each child amidst the madness.

Christmas has been about family more than ever this year which is exactly what I wanted. Christmas day was spent with everyone - grandparents, cousins, aunties and uncles, nephews and nieces, siblings in law..and to me that's what Christmas is all about. Lily is just at my favourite age right now, especially for Christmas, she's been so excited by it all and that made it so special for me and James.

Christmas Day 2015

Lily finished nursery on Wednesday and James finished work on Friday and has two weeks off so over the past few days we've been getting lots of family time in during the run up to Christmas.
I thought I'd post a few pictures of what we've been up to over the past few days as (like always) I've been a bit snap happy!

Weekend Watch - The Last Days Before Christmas

We go to Sundown every christmas, it's become a bit of a tradition. Sundown go all out at christmas which is what I really like and I always come away from it feeling really festive. Last year when we took Lily she was excited yes, but still a bit too young to understand the whole christmas theme. This year though she absolutely LOVED it and was in awe at everything she saw and it made for the most magical day.

Our Christmas decs are finally up! I swear I've been waiting for this day since we took them all down last January haha. I'm a huge fan of this time of year and love embracing all things Christmas so when Ocean Loans offered to fund my Christmas decs spree this year I absolutely jumped at the chance!
